Glass and Cement Counter Tops using glass from “The Cruncher”
We have been making some progress with the glass and cement mixes and have made some counter tops which are being used in a shop in Dullstroom. The comments have been great, the most interesting being “ you must have got these from an old hotel in Mozambique, this is what the Portuguese used to make in the 1940’s and 1950’s ”.
Glass and Cement Counter at “Dullies Take Away” installed December 2012.
We have had a number of requests from people to make glass slabs in the last 3 months having seen the above counter top. A new coffee shop in town wants 15 outside benches and tables; a house owner wants glass and cement copings on the wall surrounding his property. Another house owner wants a 4m x 60cm “glass slab” counter at their braai area. Another wants to tile a 40 square metre entrance hall using brown crushed glass and white cement.
The cost to make a square metre of glass and cement table top is approximately R210 (excl overheads) per square metre (60mm thick). The small cruncher can produce enough glass to make approximately 10 square metres per day.
Equivalent counter and table tops can be purchased at the following average prices.
Uses Price Range (per sq metre)
Melamine wooden tops Indoor use only R250 to R350
Granite and Marble Indoor and out- door R 650 to R1800
Engineered stone (eg Caesarstone) Indoor and out-door R1500 to R2300
